I do take offense to unnecessary derogatory terms like teabagger, cracker, and inaccurate descriptions like selfish, gun nut, and neocon (most people use that term incorrectly).
Lord knows I slung my share of mud at those on the left and I doubt anyone who posts here has any doubt about my political orientation. That doesn't mean that my opinions are set in stone but it does mean that anyone who succeeds in swaying my opinion can only do so with facts and well reasoned logic. I'm not so arrogant as to believe that I could never be wrong (I was married for long enough so I have been informed that I don't know anything about anything). It grinds my gears when someone tries to tell me how great things are going for our nation and directly attributes that imagined success to our current elected leaders. One doesn't need to cherry pick facts to arrive at the conclusion that the unemployment numbers are actually a lot higher than what is being reported by the Gubment, our current foreign relations situation is bad, and the economy isn't booming.
But I digress from the original point of my reply; is the term 'Gun Nut' the new N word? I have plenty of friends who would openly describe me as a gun nut and I don't find it offensive at all because they are people who share my values and tend to support many of the same issues and political positions that I do.
On the other hand, when a person who has never owned a rifle, shotgun, or pistol, never carried a weapon as a part of performing a job, and maybe never even fired a single shot calls me a gun nut it is disturbing to me. I can usually chalk it up to ignorance but some individuals like to use specific issues like needles, a prod to be used over and over anytime a gun related crime or incident occurs.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

"Despite a combined eight available hours of programming on Friday, all three network morning shows avoided the news that a scandal-plagued Democratic senator from Montana dropped a reelection bid . This move leaves the seat as a likely Republican takeover in the 2014 midterms. But viewers wouldn't know that on ABC's Good Morning America, NBC's Today and CBS This Morning.
