Consisting of nearly 59,000 volunteer mem bers, CAP serves the nation and local communities through Aerospace Educati on, Cadet Programs, and Emergency Services. Born in the days just prior to World War II, CAP now flies the world’s largest fleet of Cessna aircraft an d conducts 85 percent of the inland search & rescue missions for the Ai r Force. CAP volunteers and aircraft also actively support local, state, an d federal agencies in disaster relief and response.\n\n\nBased out of Cente nnial Airport, the Black Sheep Senior Squadron (CO-162) of the Colorado Win g is one of the largest senior squadrons in Colorado. It is comprised of strictly senior member adults. Other squadrons include: Cadet squadrons comprised mostly of youth 12-18 years old and composite squadron s that include both cadets and senior members.\n\n\nBlack Sheep members are both pilots and non-pilots who execute and support our emergency services mission in search and rescue, fire watch, disaster relief, and other missio ns tasked or approved by the U.S. Air Force. Our flight crews are typically made up of a Mission Pilot, a Mission Observer, and a Mission Scanner. Oth er positions we fill include Incident Command Post staff, urban direction f inding crews, and public affairs. While Black Sheep does not have cadet mem bers, we do support our cadet squadrons with flight experiences and aerospa ce education opportunities. All squadron members select one or more areas o f opportunity that prepare them to support the various functions of the squ adron. Training is provided at little to no cost.\n\n\nIt is important to e mphasize that no aviation experience is necessary to join Black Sheep as a valuable contributor. Contribution is paramount!
