SUMMARY:Bird Walk to Walden and Sawhill Ponds
LOCATION:Bergen Park Park-and-Ride
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:

All ages and abilities welcome! Join Ed Furl
ong for our Third-Saturday Bird Walk on Saturday May 11, 2024 from 6:30 AM
to 12:00 PM. May is an outstanding time to visit Walden and Sawhill Ponds,
part of Boulder County Parks–in fact, we had so much fun in May 2023 I deci
ded we should go again. Will this be an annual pilgramage to this marvelou
s riparian wetland? Only time will tell, but I can say that as far as place
s to see a variety of birds across several birdy habitats, the Walden Ponds
complex is one of the best places to go in Boulder County and the Front Ra
nge. This should be a fun and productive trip.
<figure id="attachment_24

den-Sawhill Ponds complex consists of more than two dozen ponds, wetlands,
and water-loving cottonwoods and shrubs that areclustered along the riparia
n zone and floodplain of Boulder Creek, providing outstanding birding at th
is time of year. Waterfowl are particularly prevalent, and the intermixed p
rairie and riparian plant communities support an abundance of raptors and o
ther field and forest birds. We will spend our morning walking and birding
the trails along the perimeter of the ponds, as well as the scanning adjace
nt trees and grasslands. If you have a spotting scope, bring it along for
great views across the ponds.
<figure id="attachment_24721" class="wp-ca

Plan to bring water, a snack, and dress for the occasion; there are seve
ral miles of level, maintained trails along the ponds, so comfortable footw
ear and a day or fanny pack will be handy as we will be away from our vehic
les for most of the morning.

We will meet at the Bergen Park Park-and
-Ride at 6:30 AM, or you can make arrangements to meet us at the Walden Pon
ds Cottonwood Marsh Parking Lot at 7:30 AM. Once I have a list of registra
nts, I’ll be in touch to provide more details and clarify our driving arran
gements. These walks are for Evergreen Audubon members and their guests. No
n-members won’t be turned away but will be encouraged to join Evergreen Aud
ubon. <a href="https://evergreena
