SUMMARY:Bird Walk to Walden and Sawhill Ponds
LOCATION:Bergen Park Park-and-Ride
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:\n\nAll ages and abilities welcome!  Join Ed Furlong for our Third-Saturday
Bird Walk on Saturday May 11, 2024 from 6:30 AM to 12:00 PM. May is an out
standing time to visit Walden and Sawhill Ponds, part of Boulder County Par
ks–in fact, we had so much fun in May 2023 I decided we should go again.  W
ill this be an annual pilgramage to this marvelous riparian wetland? Only t
ime will tell, but I can say that as far as places to see a variety of bird
s across several birdy habitats, the Walden Ponds complex is one of the bes
t places to go in Boulder County and the Front Range. This should be a fun
 and productive trip.\nBelted Kingfisher – male (c) AlanMurphyPhotography.co
m\n\nThe Walden-Sawhill Ponds complex consists of more than two dozen ponds
, wetlands, and water-loving cottonwoods and shrubs that areclustered along
the riparian zone and floodplain of Boulder Creek, providing outstanding b
irding at this time of year. Waterfowl are particularly prevalent, and the
intermixed prairie and riparian plant communities support an abundance of r
aptors and other field and forest birds. We will spend our morning walking
and birding the trails along the perimeter of the ponds, as well as the sca
nning adjacent trees and grasslands.  If you have a spotting scope, bring i
t along for great views across the ponds.\nGreen-winged Teal (c) AlanMurphy

ere are several miles of level, maintained trails along the ponds, so comfo
rtable footwear and a day or fanny pack will be handy as we will be away fr
om our vehicles for most of the morning.\n\n\nWe will meet at the Bergen Pa
rk Park-and-Ride at 6:30 AM, or you can make arrangements to meet us at the
Walden Ponds Cottonwood Marsh Parking Lot at 7:30 AM.  Once I have a list
of registrants, I’ll be in touch to provide more details and clarify our dr
iving arrangements. These walks are for Evergreen Audubon members and their
guests. Non-members won’t be turned away but will be encouraged to join Ev
ergreen Audubon. You must register here to attend this event. If you are re
gistering for more than one person, please enter each person separately.  T
his event is filled when we have 12 registrants, but it is possible to put
yourself on the waitlist; cancellations do occur with some regularity.\nYel
low Warbler (c) Mick Thompson\n\nThanks!\nEd Furlong, Chapter Programs Dire
