At the end of May, Georgetown hosts a collection of events to honor our vetera ns and kick off the summer season. Come join us this year when we open Guan ella Pass Scenic Byway, observe the annual Georgetown Pack Burro Race, and much more!

Hooray, one of Colorado’s greatest highways is open for the season!
Traditionally, Clear Creek County closes the s
ummits stretch of Guanella Pass Scenic Byway from the Monday after Thanksgi
ving until Friday of Memorial Day Weekend.
To kick off Georgetown Days, come and celebrate the reopening o f Guanella Pass Scenic Byway by taking a drive to the Guanella Pass Summit. Be sure to take lots of pictures with the gorgeous (and rapidly unthawing) Mount Bierstadt!

Celebrate Guanella Pass Scenic Byway’s openi ng with the highways ribbon cutting performed by Georgetown’s Honorary Mayo r, Parker the Snow Dog! Attendees are encouraged to bring their f urry friends along, (so long as they are leashed and friendly.)
< p>For $8, enjoy breakfast with our paw-some mayor which includes pancakes, bacon, coffee, orange juice, etc. and an opp ortunity to take a fun photo with Parker! All proceeds raised will go to th e Clear Creek County Veterans Coalition as a way to honor our veterans during Memorial Day Weekend!< span style="font-size: 10pt;">This event is sponsored by Georgetown’s very own The Barking Loop! Georget own Pack Burro Race @ 11:00am
In th e early days of the mining industry in Colorado, miners would take burros < /span>through the mountains of Colorado wh ile prospecting. Because the burros were carrying supplies, the miners coul d not ride the animals and so they would walk, leading the donkey. < /span>
The Georgetown Pack Burro Race co mmemorates these miners and their burros. Observe this unique, 8 mile race from the streets of Georgetown starting at 11am!
Mountain Jams Concert, Library Park, @1:00pm-4:00pm
Experience great live music from Rob Solomon and friends as well as Georgetown’s beautiful mountain weather in the historic district. Mountain Jams music festival kicks off on May 28 th, featuring a summer of live music brought to you by the Friends of the G eorgetown Library, the Town of Georgetown, and the Georgetown Cultural Arts Program.

While Memorial Day Wee kend unofficially marks the beginning of the summer season, more importantl y, the weekend’s true purpose is to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
O bserve Georgetowns very own Memorial Ceremony at Library Park in downtown G eorgetown. Veterans are encouraged to wear their respective branch uniform, other attendees are welcome to show their respects by wearing a red poppy in remembrance of those fallen in war.
