|Volunteers may provide services to support any day to day law enforcement duties not requiring sworn officer status.
Most volunteers work in the jail. Detention counselors provide one-on-one inmate counseling and act as group facilitators for programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and anger management programs.
Volunteers in the jail's Chaplaincy program work as teachers, worship leaders and care counselors. They are essential in assisting the agency's chaplain in providing spiritual and religious support to the inmate population, by request.
Volunteers may work in one of many other areas at the Sheriff's Office. Work schedules vary by position and individual needs.
|There are no levels of knowledge, skills, ability or education required of volunteer applicants, however, each applicant must meet Sheriff's Office standards of character, integrity and maturity. Some positions within the Sheriff's Office will require an integrity interview and polygraph examination.|
|Volunteers are bound by the provisions of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Policy and Procedure Manual, and the provisions of any policy, procedure, rule or regulation of the component to which they are assigned.|
