So Many Viruses’ So Little Time

According to Kaspersky, Norton and other major vendors of Antivirus software, there are over 8000 new viruses, Trojans and spyware every 24 hours introduced to the internet. Although Antivirus vendors work around the clock to update their definition files, there is no way to keep up with the malware onslaught. This means that is not if you get infected but most likely when.

With the infection rate trending higher and higher every year, it is time to take another look at how we are protecting ourselves and how to reduce our exposure to data loss and downtime…Enter the Sandbox.

Sandboxing is way of running programs in a confined virtual environment and limiting their access to system and network resources. You can run your browser and your email programs’s in these sandboxes and prevent viruses from migrating to or infecting the rest of your system. If your sandbox gets infected by a virus you can delete it and create a new one. Sandboxing along with a good anti-virus program can bring a new level of protection to your system.

A popular sandboxing program to try is Sandboxie. To check this program out go to http://www.sandboxie.com.

I currently am recommending Avast. Avast has a smaller footprint then some of the big Guys like Norton, Mcafee and Trend. It seems to catch the majority of malware and spyware. I also run with it SuperAntiSpyware which in combo with Avast seems to give great protection. I have included the links below for you.

Isotech are the above free? Or just trials?

I use the free Trend micro house call and with using Firefox I have had pretty good luck avoiding viruses.
