Malbec the hot grape

The wine industry always has categories where the quality of wine in the bottle exceeds the price tag. While I still would argue that Spanish wines lead the charge, Malbec from Argentina is close behind.

The taste profile of Malbec falls between a Cabernet and a Merlot. It’s a medium to full-bodied wine with fresh plum and blackberry fruit, soft tannins, a little spice, and overall easy drinkability. It got its popularity as one of the six grapes used in Bordeaux wine, but was transplanted to Argentina in 1868 and has flourished into a stand-alone varietal. The category as a whole is full of good values and relatively inexpensive, with the average price being around $10. With the summer upon us, this soft red makes a perfect porch wine and matches nicely with most grilled foods. So if you haven’t tried one, come in and check them out!
