Wildland fire on Evans Ranch Rd in Evergreen

Evergreen Fire Rescue has responded to a report of a wildland fire in the 39000 block of Evans Ranch Rd. Visible flames, small column of smoke.

Caused by a lightning strike, about 15 x 15' in size, wind is picking up. Additional personnel requested, and a hand crew is coming from the state. Firefighters have to hike into the fire.

Update on fire: 20 x 40' in size, small flames burning pine needles mostly, fire is "skunking."

skunking: fire burning with a low flame and spreading slowly; also called creeping

They are tracking an incoming storm that may have lightning and cause the firefighters to have to take shelter until it passes.

Firefighters hiking in approximately half a mile to get to the fire. Rocky terrain. 3 brush trucks, 5 people on the fire at this time, more in-bound. Estimate they will be there until at least 8:00pm.

@efr_co is on scene of a 20' x 20' wildfire in the State Wildlife Area near Evan's Ranch. 3 brush trucks and 5 firefighters on scene with a tactical tender standing by. Fire was caused by a lightning strike. Spread potential minimal. Forest Service is also in route to assist.

Here are some great photos from the small fire 20x20’ wildland fire yesterday in Evans Ranch area. Cause was a lightning strike. 5 Firefighters hiked in 1/2 mile with water packs, chain saws and tools. Fire was 100% contained pretty quickly. Remember - if you see smoke or flames please call 911. The sooner EFR gets to it, the sooner we can try to put it out!
