TABOR – Refunds this year or not?
Carol Hedges, Executive Director of the nonprofit Colorado Fiscal Institute, will give an update on Colorado’s TABOR (Taxpayers Bill of Rights) amendment to the League of Women Voters of Jefferson County at a general public meeting from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24. Hedges, a recognized expert on the effects of TABOR, will also discuss the options of refunding tax money to taxpayers or using the money for education and other state obligations.
Hedges has been involved in the research, policy and advocacy community in Colorado for more than 15 years, serving in various capacities for three Colorado governors, including Gov. Roy Romer, Gov. Bill Ritter and Gov. John Hickenlooper. While senior policy analyst with the Bell Policy Center, she wrote “Ten Years of TABOR,” a comprehensive study of TABOR’s effects. She also has been involved in education efforts on TABOR-like proposals across the country. A graduate of Emporia State University in Emporia, Kan., Hedges earned a law degree from the University of Kansas.
The meeting will be at the Belmar Library, 555 S. Allison Way, Lakewood, which is southwest of Alameda and Wadsworth. The meeting room is immediately to the right past the main doors. There will be handouts and time for questions. There is no charge to attend.
