Shining a Light on Energy Policy
Pun intended: Energy policy is a burning issue today. Our planet is warming, new technologies allow oil and gas to be retrieved at great depths, and renewable energy sources are cheaper and more widely used. Colorado’s policies are constantly evolving. The League of Women Voters of Jefferson County will be examining the energy policies of the United States, Colorado, Jefferson County and the European Union as they stand today during its six small group meetings May 12-14 throughout the county.
The League will address several of today’s hot topics, including the changing energy market, the electric grid, and carbon pricing mechanisms to encourage the use of renewables. Attendees will discuss how to get to a more sustainable energy future. The aim of these meetings is to make what can be a complicated and arcane topic more understandable. All meetings are open to the public.
In the foothills area, the League will meet at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, at Highland Rescue Team Ambulance Service, 317 S. Lookout Mountain Road, Golden 80401. Call Janet at 303-674-7755 for more information. The League also has an evening meeting on May 13. For information, call Lucinda at 720-254-5741 or visit www.lwvjeffco.org.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that neither supports nor opposes candidates from any party.
