May is Older Americans Month and every year since 1963 May has been the month to appreciate and celebrate the vitality and aspirations of older adults and their contributions to our communities. This year Older Americans Month's theme, Get Into the Act, focuses on how older adults are taking charge of their health, getting engaged in their communities, and making a positive impact in the lives of others.
Jefferson County is honoring our older Americans by distributing purple leis around the county, and with a proclamation read on May 5 by the Board of County Commissioners.
In addition, the annual Senior Heroes event celebrating the efforts of Jefferson County's older adults who volunteer to make their communities a better place to live, will take place on May 21 at 2:30 p.m. at Mountain Vista Retirement Community. The event is at no cost and open to the public.
