Our spring training session is our annual opportunity to become "Patrol Certified". Whether a new or returning volunteer, this 2 day event will be conducted in cooperation with the South Platte and Clear Creek Ranger Districts. Training will be held at the Shawnee Community Center located in Shawnee, Colorado, approximately 5 miles south of Bailey on US Highway 285. All attendees will be encouraged to camp overnight at the USFS field station just across the street. Food and beverages will be provided by FOMELC. Volunteers will need to provide their own transportation and camping gear.
The two day activities will include the following topics:
- Leave No Trace Ethics and Field Implementation
- Dealing with Visitors in the Wilderness
- Understanding the Authority of the Resource
- Introduction to Invasive Species Mitigation and the "Dirty Dozen."
- Using a GPS
- Wilderness Campsites
- Packing for Patrol
- Filing Patrol Reports
