From the Jeffco Sheriff's Office:

Portion of US 285 Renamed for Fallen JeffCo Sergeant
“Sgt. Sean P. Renfro Memorial Highway” to be Unveiled
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Sean Renfro
At 10 a.m. this Wednesday, Sept. 14, a special ceremony will be held to unveil a memorial sign designating a seven mile stretch of US Highway 285 as the “Sergeant Sean P. Renfro Memorial Highway.”

The dedication ceremony will be held at mile marker 245 on the southbound side of US 285, four miles north of where Sgt. Renfro was tragically killed on January 3, 2015. Off duty at the time, Sgt. Renfro had stopped to offer assistance to passengers of a single vehicle accident when a driver lost control of her vehicle, crossed the center median, and collided with the vehicle Sgt. Renfro was standing near, killing him and injuring two others at the scene.

Sheriff Shrader is appreciative of the State of Colorado’s efforts to recognize Sgt. Renfro’s legacy of selfless dedication to public service by renaming mile markers 238 through 245 of US 285 in his honor:

“Sergeant Renfro died doing what he did every day – protecting and serving the citizens of Jefferson County. He deserves to be remembered for his 15 year career and his actions that day. With the renaming of US 285, I believe he will be.”

For those attending, parking will be available along the shoulder of US 285 at the site of the ceremony, accessible from the right hand lane on the southbound side of the highway. Media is welcome and encouraged to attend the ceremony.
