Green River Fossil Fish Dig

Join the Friends of Dinosaur Ridge, May 26 through 28, 2017 for an amazing weekend excursion! This trip will visit the Ancient Lake Fossils private, commercial quarry in the Green River Formation near Fossil Butte National Monument in Kemmerer, Wyoming.

During this trip we will dig in their active split fish quarry and keep the fish you uncover! Friday evening will feature guest speaker Arvid Aase (Fossil Butte National Monument, National Park Service). Saturday evening will feature guest speakers, Ancient Lake Fossils Inc. quarry owner Adam Lindgren, quarry staff Dain Hanson, and Dinosaur Ridge staff Blake Sullivan.

Dates: May 26 through May 28, 2017
Cost: $550/person (Dinosaur Ridge members and volunteers qualify for a $25 discount)

Fee includes:

Hotel
Dig
Transportation
Breakfast two days

Two evening lectures
Tools provided at dig (can bring own)

Restrictions:

Anyone under 18 years of age must attend with an adult (valid ID required). All ages welcome.
Limited walking field trip, not wheelchair accessible.
Hammers and chisels provided, but if you have your own, please bring.
Water and sodas provided while at the Quarry. Bring your own water bottle.
Limited to 24 attendees (pending interest). Need 18 participants for trip to occur.
$125 non-refundable deposit due with RSVP.

Tentative Schedule:

Friday May 26

Meet at the Dinosaur Ridge Visitor Center 7:30am-7:45am
Depart Dinosaur Ridge in vans at 8:00am (no wiggle room on this due to the schedule)
Drive 6-7 hours.
Check in at 3pm at the Best Western Kemmerer, Wyoming
Head out to Fossil Butte National Monument Visitor Center 5:00pm
Arvid Aase talk 5:30-7pm (talk plus Q&A) – Preservation and Museum Curation
Dinner on your own (many places close around 8pm in town)

Saturday May 27

Breakfast provided by hotel: 6am-7:30am Load up vans at 8am to head to the Quarry
Digging from 8:30am-1pm
Lunch provided – Subway catering
After lunch free time back at hotel or we can tour Fossil Butte National Monument Visitor Center. No cost.
Adam Lindgren talk 4pm-5:30pm (talk plus Q&A) – The Commercial Side of Paleontology
Dinner on your own (many places close around 8pm in town)

Sunday May 28

Breakfast provided by hotel: 6am-7:30am
Hotel Check out before we head to the quarry (we won’t be returning to the hotel)
Load up vans at 8am to head to the Quarry
Digging from 8:30am-1pm
Lunch provided – Pizza Hut Catering
Leave Kemmerer at 2pm
Arrive at Dinosaur Ridge around 8-9pm
