Jeffco LWV book club to explore India’s dramatic struggle for freedom
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the birth of independent India and Pakistan. The Jefferson County League of Women Voters nonfiction book club will take a dive into India’s dramatic struggle for freedom from the British, and the bloody horrors that resulted when India was torn into separate Hindu and Muslim parts.
In Freedom at Midnight: The Epic Drama of Indian’s Struggle for Independence by Larry Collins and Dominique LaPierre, readers will learn about the violent partition that set the stage for the continuing deadly battles today between Pakistan and its former homeland. Gandhi’s amazing life and transformative murder and Lord Mountbatten’s courageous role as last Viceroy are only two of the many characters who bring this drama to life. One reviewer wrote: “This book is a huge investment and definitely pays off...”
