On August 22nd, Staunton held its first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Climbing Clinic. The free clinic takes place the fourth Saturday of each month, weather permitting. The goal of this clinic is to offer groups with historically limited access to the outdoors the opportunity to learn the incredible sport of climbing in an accessible, safe, educational setting.
Participants learned how to identify gear, its functionality, and how to use it properly. They learned the staple knot of tying into a rope, basic climbing technique, and how to provide a top rope belay!
Attendees and instructors alike had a fantastic time. Working together, connecting with one another, and connecting with nature were the most beautiful side effects of the day.
