New Location for the 2021 Summer Whale of a Used Book Sale to Benefit Jefferson County Public Library, June 23 - 27, 2021:

Now at Lakewood Church of the Nazarene

Reserve your spot for the Summer Whale of a Used Book Sale and join us at our new location at Lakewood Church of the Nazarene ,1755 Dover St, Lakewood, CO 80215!

Due to the popularity of reserved shopping for last year's Fall Whale of a Used Book Sale (and out of an abudance of caution due to COVID-19), shoppers can once again reserve a 50-minute spot for the top of the hour in the slot of their choice. A maximum of 80 shoppers can be inside the venue at one time.

The Whale of a Used Book Sale has a 20+year history of offering thousands of great quality donated books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl records and many more items with prices starting at $0.50. Proceeds are used to help support early childhood literacy programs, author talks, the Library Summer Challenge, and other programs and services at Jefferson County Public Library.

Reservations are available for the top of each hour for 50 minute increments on the following days:

  • Wednesday, June 23 from 5 PM - 8 PM - for members of FRIENDS of JCPL only
  • Thursday, June 24 through Saturday, June 26 from 9 AM to 5 PM
  • Sunday, June 27 from 10 AM to 4 PM.

COVID Protocols Followed

Quarantine of all items following Jefferson County Public Library protocols: The sale offers high-quality items that have been donated. When they are donated to the Jefferson County Library Foundation, all items are quarantined following the timeline established by the Library.

Social Distancing: Only 80 shoppers will be allowed into the exhibit hall at one time for 50-minute increments at the top of each hour. To guarantee a spot at their desired time and day, shoppers must reserve one of the 80 spots ahead of time which requires a small reservation fee of $5.00. Those paying the fee get one free book or media item of their choosing (Bert's excluded).

Masks & Hygiene: Everyone entering the facility is required to wear a mask including shoppers, volunteers and staff. There will be no exceptions to this rule regardless of health condition or waiver. Sanitizer and gloves will be available and will be used at great length inside the facility.

COVID Waiver: All persons attending the sale will be required to sign a COVID waiver (release of liability) prior to entering the venue. You can read the waiver prior to arrival at the venue here: http://bit.ly/2021WSWaiver or at the venue prior to entering.

To make shopping fast and easy during this Covid-era version of the book sale, boxes of children’s books arranged by age group will be available for $10. Boxes of adult hardbacks and paperbacks will also be available for $10.

Three things that haven’t changed:

• On Saturday, June 26, Jefferson County employees, area teachers, and members of the FRIENDS of the Jefferson County Library Foundation will be able to get half off the price of their purchases, except in the antique section downstairs below the exhibit hall known as Bert’s Weathered & Treasured. Everyone requesting the half-off discount, however, MUST show their employee identification.

• On Sunday, June 27, all shoppers can purchase a regular grocery-sized tote or bag of the books of their choosing for $8.00 per bag.

This event continues to enjoy tremendous support from local sponsors, including our Friends Community Partners: Westerra Credit Union, Bandimere Speedway, Stevinson Toyota West, Pinkard Construction, 50 Plus Marketplace News, and Colorado Women’s Day.
