The Dakota Ridge Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol will hold an open house, Monday October 11, 2021, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The squadron is located at 5890 S Alkire Street in Littleton, CO, and the open house will be held at the Waterstone Church parking area.

The open house will feature demonstrations of the capabilities and opportunities offered to youngsters and adults through this nationwide organization. These will include model rocket launches, unmanned areal vehicle flights, radio controlled aircraft and the CAP’s Cyberpatriot® cyber security training program.

The displays and demonstrations are based around some of the new capabilities and tools in use throughout CAP. The open house will be an opportunity for visitors to learn what CAP is about, and our many missions involving non-pilot volunteers. Cadets and Senior Officers will be available to speak with visitors about the benefits of serving in a local CAP squadron. No prior military experience or future commitment is required to serve in the Civil Air Patrol.

“The Civil Air Patrol offers nearly everyone an opportunity to give back to their community. Most of our volunteers are not pilots, and serve in ground-based roles, including mission support, logistics, and aerospace education, as well as community service projects like food drives, disaster relief and support of local emergency service agencies. Members gain experience in duties they personally choose. It is an excellent way for parents and their children to serve together” Capt. Steve Hamilton, Public Affairs Officer in the CAP’s Colorado Wing said.

CAP performs search-and-rescue, disaster relief and community service missions. It is an auxiliary of the United States Air Force. The Civil Air Patrol has 32 squadrons based across Colorado, and a national membership of 56,000 volunteers. The CAP is open to young adults between 12 and 18 who join as Cadets. Anyone over 21 can join as a Senior Member. The Civil Air Patrol is a national, all-volunteer nonprofit 501-C3 organization.

Civil Air Patrol is the longtime auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and as such is a valued member of its Total Force. In its auxiliary role, CAP operates a fleet of 560 single-engine aircraft and more than 2,100 small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS). It performs about 90% of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 82 lives annually. CAP’s 56,000 members also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. Operating as a nonprofit organization, CAP also plays a leading role in STEM/aerospace education, and its members serve as mentors to more than 23,000 young people participating in CAP’s Cadet Programs.
