The San Luis Valley: History at a Cultural Crossroad

Charles Nicholas Saenz
Presenter:
Dr. Charles Nicholas Saenz

Home to many firsts in the state’s history, the San Luis Valley enjoys recognition as “the place where Colorado began.” Nick Saenz explores the meaning of this phrase as it relates to a history of conflict and collaboration along the borderlands of the Río Grande. Understand how Colorado emerged as a contested space at the juncture of Native, Latino, and Anglo experiences in the San Luis Valley.
