Restore a riparian system and revegetate an eroding road in South Park
WRV returns to Sheep Mountain, a 13,000-foot peak near Fairplay where we closed and restored 2 miles of road on the South Face in 2019 (photos). Now we will turn our attention to the North Face of Sheep Mountain and help the US Forest Service close and restore a degraded trail system that is eroding into Fourmile Creek.
Working with longtime partners at the Mosquito Range Heritage Initiative and the South Park Ranger District, WRV will be working along one of three trail sections to be closed and revegated as part of a series of trail reroutes planned for 2022 on Sheep Mountain. Volunteers will narrow the existing old fourwheel road into a sustainable trail route and restore riparian vegetation in the closed areas.
