Map May-hem 2023: Maps of the American West. Tom Overton. Early Maps of Denver.

This lecture will examine the first maps of Denver, from 1859 to 1860, including the hitherto underappreciated Boyd map in the History Colorado archives. The talk will explore the people culture and history behind these early maps.

Tom Overton is a past president of the Rocky Mountain Map Society. He began collecting antique maps while he was still in college, more than 40 years ago. His interests include antique maps of all kinds, especially Colorado. Tom is the primary author of the Atlas of Colorado Counties which provides a quick reference for dating antique Colorado maps.

The Rocky Mountain Map Society, in conjunction with History Colorado, presents a month-long series of lectures focusing on the mapping of the American West.
