William Arthur Hamill, born in Liverpool, England, 1836, emigrated to the United States when he was 17 where he met Priscilla whom he later married. He became known as General Hamill, after (possibly) serving in the Civil War and later appointed by Governor Pitkin (CO) to head the State Guard. William and his family lived in Georgetown, in the home originally built by his brother -in-law, where he became a wealthy mine owner, involved in state politics and very influential in state government.
Priscillia McKee Hamill, born in New Jersey in 1838, met the love of her life, William. They married and moved to Colorado in the 1860s. Together they had six children.
Priscilla loved to throw lavish parties in their Georgetown home, inviting top political figures from the Denver area and other wealthy mine owners from nearby towns and counties. To be invited to their home was a privilege and declaration of status. She also welcomed the local families of the Town to enjoy the holiday decorations of their home. As the guests departed, she presented each woman with a rose as a gift from the Hamill family.
