What is Slash?

Slash is debris, from nature, such as tree limbs, prunings and pine cones. If not removed, slash can add to potential fire hazards on your property. The importance of mitigating and preparing your property for wildfire cannot be overstated - and again this year, Jefferson County is your partner in this effort.

The Slash drop-off locations operate Thursday through Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., unless otherwise posted. Please arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to closing as the unloading process takes about 30 minutes.

Marshdale

The Marshdale site operates Thursday through Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., last drop-off accepted at 2:30 p.m.

A list of Accepted materials with green check and Not Accepted materials with red x

The majority of the materials that are not accepted often cause damage to our heavy machinery. Construction material and lumber typically have metal hidden throughout, which can cause damage to our grinder. Tree stumps often have rocks, which are challenging and time consuming to remove. We also do not accept leaves since other debris, such as rocks and metal, can get swept up with the leaves. Please do not use heavy machinery to load material into vehicles/trailers as this will often add dirt and rock. Staff reserve the right to reject loads for any reason.

Tincup Materials

Unfortunately, the County is not able to take detached pine needles at the new Tincup Ridge Slash Yard site this year. Currently, only woody debris such as limbs, branches, and logs are acceptable at this location as we undertake ongoing construction and enhancements to the site. Needles and leaves attached to branches are acceptable. We do accept pine needles at our rotating sites this season – including Elk Creek Elementary, Marshdale, and Blue Mountain. For these rotating sites, please ensure that your pine needles are free of rock and dirt as this will damage the equipment. Pine needles can be bagged, but you will need to unbag them and take the bags with you when you leave the slash site. We continue to try and reduce the footprint created by offering this service and requiring material to be unbagged helps to reduce waste and promotes reusing bags. Here is a Pine Needle Alternative Disposal Resource page.Fees
Any size truck or trailer is welcome at Jefferson County Slash Collection sites. Dump fees are based on six cubic yards (162 cubic feet) of material: six yards is one load. The cost to drop off a single load is $24Credit cards only. This is equivalent to:
  • Truck bed full to truck cab height
  • Trailer up to eight feet long by five feet wide by four feet high
  • Loads outside these parameters will be charged accordingly
