What is Slash?

Slash is debris from nature, such as tree limbs, prunings, and pine cones. If not removed, slash can add to potential fire hazards on your property. The importance of mitigating and preparing your property for wildfire cannot be overstated - and again this year, Jefferson County is your partner in this effort.

View the map or click here for the exact schedule and times. Please arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to closing, as the unloading process takes about 30 minutes.

All material brought to the slash sites must be unloaded by hand. We are currently exploring more efficient unloading options for the Tincup Slash yard.

The SLASH program accepts material from both residents and non-residents.

Any size truck or trailer is welcome at Jefferson County Slash Collection sites. Dump fees are based on six cubic yards (162 cubic feet) of material: six yards is one load. The cost to drop off a single load is $24. Credit cards only. This is equivalent to:

  • Truck bed full to truck cab height
  • Trailer up to eight feet long by five feet wide by four feet high
  • Loads outside these parameters will be charged accordingly

Accepted:

  • Limbs
  • Branches
  • Woody debris
  • Tree bark
  • Pine cones
  • Pine needles
  • Logs - Maximum length 8 feet, maximum diameter 6 inches

Not Accepted:

  • Construction material
  • Lumber/planks/plywood
  • Household trash
  • Metal of any kind
  • Rocks/dirt/sod
  • Tree stumps/root balls
  • Yard waste/grass/weeds
  • Bags/bundled material
  • Leaves
  • Christmas trees

If you plan to bring both woody materials and detached pine needles, please separate them, as they are sorted in different areas of the slash yard. Thank you!

Disposal Alternatives for Pine Needles resource page.

Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB)

MPB infested logs will be accepted only at the Tincup Ridge SLASH Yard. Please bring infested materials outside of flight season (before June 15 and after September 30).

Prohibited Materials

Certain materials are not accepted at any SLASH site due to the risk of damaging heavy equipment, including:

  • Construction materials and lumber (may contain hidden metal)
  • Tree stumps (often embedded with rocks)
  • Detached leaves (can carry rocks or metal debris)

Please do not use heavy machinery to load material into vehicles or trailers, as this can introduce excess dirt and rocks into the load. Staff reserves the right to reject any load that does not meet program requirements.

Support SLASH

Wildfire mitigation requires community-wide support to reduce risk for Jefferson County. Donations help the County recover the cost of operating the SLASH program and directly contribute to wildfire mitigation efforts in your community.
