Jeffco Open Space to Host First ‘Trails Talk’ Forum

Jeffco Open Space is providing a new format for dialog on experiences in the parks and on the trails. Come to listen, join the conversation, sign up to put boots on the ground, or contribute to small discussion groups exploring big ideas. Trails Talk is a chance to learn how different stewardship methods may be applied and tested on Jeffco Open Space trails.

The newly adopted Jeffco Open Space Master Plan sets a goal for 25 miles of new trail to be built in the parks in the next five years. The planning for trail-building involves consideration of terrain, floodplains, tie-ins with existing trails, steepness or grade, innovative techniques, and serving the public. Trails Talk will highlight the philosophy behind trail-building, the debut of a new trail condition ratings system, and how the public can get involved in future working groups.

This event will be held on Wednesday, April 16th, from 6:00-7:30pm, at the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center, 4005 Kipling St, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033, in the ballrooms.

In addition to talk of upcoming new trails, Jeffco Open Space will provide an update on flood recovery efforts, the proposed Apex Park Bike Skills area, and other study group opportunities. Learn more about the Share and Care initiatives focusing on volunteer involvement and individual stewardship. Following a presentation, staff experts will be available for one-on-one questions on a variety of topics.

Jeffco Parks is comprised of Jefferson County Open Space, the Fairgrounds, CSU Extension, Boettcher Mansion, and Weed and Pest. Open Space, the largest division, was founded as a land conservation organization in 1972 and preserves natural and cultural resources, provides quality outdoor recreation experiences and promotes sound environmental stewardship. We are funded with a one-half cent sales tax that has protected over 52,000 acres and created 28 regional parks and 227 miles of trails in Jefferson County.
