Team up with CFI this summer to help improve the east summit route of Colorado’s second-highest peak, Mount Massive. This four-day backpacking project provides you with the opportunity to work as part of a small group of volunteers performing valuable trail maintenance and restoration work. On day one you’ll meet up at the trailhead and backpack about 3 miles before setting up camp near treeline. On days two and three you’ll hike into the high alpine to help build trail structures to protect the trail, limit erosion, and protect adjacent alpine tundra vegetation. Return to camp each evening to enjoy the views of the Upper Arkansas Valley and the camaraderie of your crewmates. You will pack up camp and hike out on day four.
When: Thursday, August 7 through Sunday, August 10
Project type: Overnight backpacking, trail maintenance
Food: CFI will provide all food from lunch on Thursday through lunch on Sunday.
What to bring: CFI will provide a full packing list of necessary equipment, including your own backpacking gear (backpack, tent, sleeping bag, etc.).
