COFA, a non-profit organization who promotes outdoor activities for families (Christian Outdoor Fellowship of America) is hosting their 5th Annual Old Fashion Kid's Free Turkey Shoot. The event is open to all children along the Front Range and the 285 corridor. Children ages 8-15 (broken down into four age groups), will compete for a chance to win a turkey and other prizes. Each child registered will be given the opportunity to shoot a Red Rider BB gun at a paper turkey target, all supplied by COFA.
COFA's goal is to get children outdoors and away from the TV and computer games! Many children today are focused on electronic devices and have little or no contact with the outdoors. This event continues to grow exponentially every year as families drive from Colorado Springs, Blackhawk, Fort Collins and all along the Front Range just to give their children an opportunity to experience a fun, outdoor event. We even have grandparents bring their grandchildren and enjoy a day in the mountains watching them shoot for a turkey.
The Conifer community supports this event. They also see a need to bring area children and their friends together, doing something other than playing video games. An equal number of boys and girls enjoy shooting a BB gun, many of them for the first time!
