My Mom gifted me with something very precious when I left Texas.
She placed my fathers love letters and WWII memorabilia in my hands to scan and document.
I would like to find a good way to put all of this together in one package, DVD or book to keep a recorded history of that time of their lives.
Any ideas.
I am in the process of carefully scanning these letters into my computer.
Make a DVD of it and then hang a collage of the letters. It would be great to hand this down to a family member. Maybe make a DVD and copies for each one of the grand kids and great grand kids?
Great idea. I was also thinking of a bound set of books.
I have WWII Stars and Stripes, Beachhead News, Newspaper clippings, love letters, Commendations and all sorts of amazing documents.
Right now, I am just trying to figure out how to organize them.
I really want to get these recorded somehow to preserve the info.
It might make it easier for you if you do it by date. Maybe put the paper clippings along side of the medal from the same year and add the love letter/s if any along with that.. Books would be a great idea!!
That was my thought to neptune. Scan all of it into my pc and then hand it to a someone to preserve this amazing information.
I will share a bit here as I get started.
I have to say that it is hard to get through some of these letters as so much of the beginning of my parents life lays in the words of those letters. I miss my Pop so much and I just feel so blessed to be entrusted with all of this.
Founded in 1998, the Legacy Project is a national, all-volunteer initiative that encourages Americans to seek out and preserve the personal correspondence of our nation’s veterans, active-duty troops, and their loved ones. No one can tell the stories of these men and women better than they can, and we believe that their sacrifices, humanity, and experiences are best recorded in their own words—the letters and e-mails they have written in times of war.
