we changed the water in our spa yesterday. I only put in chemicals to raise the PH and Alkalinity at the time of filling. We "shock" it after the first night in the spa. Last night, the water had an odd smell and today my husband checked the well. There were two dead mice in there! He got them out and is now running the well down as much as we can (running water into our pond) and then we are going to super chlorinate it and flush out all the house pipes and change the filter on the well. He went down and got about 15 gallons of drinking water for the next few days as we get the well chlorinated and flushed. Our well is INSIDE our house in a closet in the basement. The lid was closed, of course. We need to find out how/where the mice got in and plan to let the cats down there to see if they find any more mice.
Has anyone ever had anything like this happen and is there anything else we need to be doing?
yes it has a cover and it was closed. but there must be a tiny gap around a pipe or something - mice can squeeze through the tiniest holes...and yes it is a cistern...
gross.... we think the tiny crevice where the pipes/wires(to run pump) go in have enough room to squeeze through, so we are going to push some Dacron in there to close it. Meanwhile, we are using gallons of drinking water as the chlorine works it way through the system. blech
Get a couple of these...There won't be a mouse within 500 yards of your house...Or A chipmunk, vol or squirrel..These imported terriers are my one two punch against varmints..Hunting things is all they do, it's all they wanna do..
