The Al-Jazerra part was a joke... right?

No, it was NOT.....WHY you ask?....went to Thanksgiving dinner last year and in attendance was a "spec
ops" agent (retired) now and working as an independent contractor. HIS comments about MSM were NOT gracious, and his assessment of GOOD informative reporting mirrored what I suspected/thought, what I have just posted...OTHER good sources, company Stratfor....who provides GLOBAL intelligence

Does it strike anyone as odd though how much time on national news is devoted to weather reports these days? Certainly a predicted large magnitude storm that will impact air traffic is worth 30 - 45 seconds of national airtime, but the several minutes with location reporters and teasers for their morning shows, etc. - really??? Most of that, I believe, belongs on the local news, not the national.

Like cydl, I believe that the only purpose for such "in-depth" reporting of a regional weather event on a national broadcast is to avoid reporting real news.

And, as you say, it really is damned if you do and damned if you don't. People need to be more prepared to deal with such events. It isn't that difficult.

I think the success of the Weather Channel drives this over-coverage. People want to see bad weather. See how often local broadcasts start with weather news.

Really. I've been on Al-Jazerra America TV. I can give you a first hand account how they slant the news. Of course, they slant the news in your political direction so that is probably why you accept its reporting.

In that case can I recommend Russian Times to you. Combined with Al-Jazerra, you'll be all set with propanganda reporting about America and the world.

Have fun.

Have to agree with the Rev, while Al Jazeera can be good to check out to get all sides, they are subject to much more government censorship than US news media. Much like Russian media.

RETURNING to the original topic.....weather is NOT the problem...the Inability of people to think and to
be situational aware has been lost. We are so DISconnected from nature and it's cycles, the fundamental
basics of "living" with uncertainty/being prepared have vanished...COMMON SENSE is NOT common anymore.

I have witnessed this phenomenon HERE....in Colorado, preparing for a change of weather is routine..YET with the large influx of newcomers we have a massive problem with people being UNprepared for winter,UNprepared for sudden thunderstorms/sleet/rain/winds...We are KNOWN as an outdoor state, people flock to the mountains and THEN are "blindsighted" by bad weather....WTH.

Why on earth do we need to be prepared for anything when we have this massive central government taking care of us from cradle to grave? :firering:

Has it occurred to anyone else that the same folks who where using their computer weather models to predict the storm of the century for New York City are the same bunch that are telling us all about the gloom and doom that awaits us because of global warming, climate change, or whatever you want to call it because of the long term (50 years and more) computer weather models? I think I'll go fire up the chainsaw just for fun...

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Science Chic is correct. They are very different. But their ability to use computers to model, whether it be trying to plug in 150 years of data or the fast moving real time data, is suspect (and very error prone). Which the last 18 years of halted warming has shown.

There hasn't been "halted warming" over the past 18 years, but that's for another topic. :)

This Jon Stewart video made me LOL. Blizzapocalypsegeddon is my new favorite word!
Jon Stewart compiles the most ridiculous blizzard media coverage
"When did the Weather Channel hire Michael Bay to direct its videos??" LMAO!
