Matthew Scheel was a 10 year veteran of Elk Creek Fire, and more recently had volunteered with North Fork Fire Rescue. He passed away in his home in Conifer last September after suffering a cerebral aneurism. A scholarship fund was created in his honor at Red Rocks Community College to support a deserving candidate in the pursuit of a career as Firefighter/EMS.
