Celebrate Earth Day 2014 at Evergreen Lake
Come Celebrate a Milestone at the 25th Annual Mountain Area Earth Day Fair. Not only will our friends from the federal, state, and local communities be present, but this year we will again offer a Speaker Series in the cozy Octagon Room at the Lakehouse. At 11 am, local talent Tupper and Karla Briggs of EAS+Y will be doing a puppet show for the children about the importance of taking reusable bags to the grocery store instead of asking for paper or plastic at the checkout stand. Each child will receive a free reusable bag to take home. At 1 pm, Russell Clayshulte and other members of the Bear Creek Watershed Association, an organization that has been monitoring our Bear Creek Watershed for over 25 years, will be presenting “Bear Creek Watershed News", a synopsis of their Watershed 102 Course. At 3pm, Hawkquest will have a special presentation of its live raptors. Also, Evergreen Metro District will be doing a tour at 12pm of their water treatment facilities at the east end of Evergreen Lake.
Join us at the 2014 Mountain Area Earth Day Fair from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, April 19 at the Evergreen Lake House, 29614 Upper Bear Creek Road. Free parking and a shuttle will be available. Admission will be free to all ages. Donations will be encouraged.
Growing since 1990 and now one of the largest and most popular Earth Day celebrations in Colorado, the fair regularly features over 50 federal, state, and local agencies, nonprofit organizations and businesses. Up-to-date information on critical issues will be available for open discussions and to take home. The festival’s traditional mainstay, HawkQuest will again present its live raptors throughout the day in the Octagon Room. Local high school students have taken on various planning and hosting tasks. The Café @ The Place will cater to everyone’s taste and together - organizers, exhibitors, caterer and guests - the entire event will strive to achieve EAS+Y’s Gold level Zero Waste Certification.
While you are at Evergreen Lake be sure to visit the historic Warming Hut, home to the Evergreen Nature Center which is operated by Evergreen Audubon. The Nature Center‘s 2014 Season Opening Day will coincide with the fair’s festivities and offer numerous children’s activities.
