I say "Express-oh" becuase I have a mouth that was born and raised in Colorado and dislikes using french pronunciations. I get away with a few spanish words, but was a miserable failure at the french language in high school.

I also like the play on words.

Since you "axt" about pronounciation:

Bewnah Vista for Buena Vista is a conversation stopper for me.
It is amazing how Coloradoans mispronounce words. It makes one want to pull out his/her hair.
Galapagos is pronounced as gal-uh-pay-gos.
Zoon-eye for Zuni. Jeez!
Are-vad-uh for Arvada. Give me a break.
Col-uh-rad-uh for Colorado. Makes a person want to vomit.

just like it's spelled: ess pres o

I don't know if this is a Midwest thing, or Ohio thing, but my family puts "r's" and "n's" where they shouldn't be: warsh the laundry, prentzel, etc. Drives me nuts...

I have no idea where they picked this up either, but they call green peppers "mangoes" so I grew up thinking they were mangoes. I got a rude correction from a customer at the grocery store where I started working during college b/c I rang up a green pepper as a mango (as I had been doing since I'd started months earlier) and mangoes are a lot more expensive than green peppers - they don't identify all the produce during training and only require you to learn a few of the more popular SKU numbers, like apples and bananas. I thought back to all the people I'd erroneously overcharged and felt really bad!

As a kid we had a neighbor named Velázquez pronounced Bay-lah-ski. To this day it is still repulsive to me to hear this name pronounced a val-es-skwez (not that this pronounciation isn't right).
