Conifer man gets 337-pounder in Alaska halibut derby

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A Colorado man fishing in the waters of southcentral Alaska has hauled in a 337-pound halibut — easily the biggest catch in the region this season.
The Anchorage Daily News reports that Aaron Buscher of Conifer, Colo., caught the 7-foot, 4-inch halibut late Monday morning in Resurrection Bay while competing in a fishing derby.
It took him 45 minutes to haul the big fish to dock in Seward. He had been fishing south of Alaska's Montague Island.
Buscher used 50-pound test braided line and a Penn Torque 10 reel mounted to a 7-foot Penn Torque rod.

That is amazing! Does anyone know him personally? We need him on this site to tell his fish story!

They must have removed the picture because it's not there now.

Here's a story with the photo:

I'd have released him. It is sad that a fish that big and that old had to die for a guy to get a prize. I know, I know, but still. I couldn't have killed the fish for that.

I saw a comedian once who said, "If fish could scream, nobody would fish."

You know how fish flop around when you reel them in and throw them in the boat or on the shore? He did this skit where a fisherman reels in a fish and throws it down it is screaming...

He quickly grabs the fish and throws it back in the water, "I'm not keeping that sucker!"

I'm sure the guy's Halibut is going to good use. It's not like it's going to be wasted.

I know. It's not that. It's that this fish survived for however long to grow to that huge size and now he's dead. I'm a sap. We all know that........

I would have thrown it back. After a pic, of course.
