Jefferson County considers legalizing short-term home rental

Actually, I think we'd all be better off in the long run if we got rid of most zoning altogether. Let's just have residential and commercial for tax purposes and no other.

I'm with you on that one. Planned communities ruin the character of neighborhoods and limit property owners rights- if Evergreen were a planned community- it would not look anything like it does today.

The character of Evergreen pre-dates zoning laws.

BearMtnHIB wrote: Well I think you all are missing the point here- Evergreen used to be all about short term rentals. Evergreen was the Vail and Aspen of it's time. Folks would come here and stay for a week, or a month just to get away.

That is because Evergreen was a summer destination. The properties that you speak of (Forest Hills, Mtn Park, Independence Hgts) were summer occupancy only and are now gone, replaced or rebuilt by newer 'year round' residentials that have full time occupancy.

Sorry, but you can't speak for those out to just make a buck. I don't think there is any sort of process that the owners go through to review their 'renters'.

Loud parties would be in violation of noise laws- call the cops.
Any short term lease can easily limit the number of people.

Cops are called repeatedly. Read the reports about the complaints. Neighbors are tired of calling the cops with little to no results so they are taking the next available recourse.

Not when you have a different variety of idiots with the same "F**k you, I'm on vacation" attitude every other week.

BearMtnHIB wrote: As for those properties so close to each other- I dont think they would be very attractive as short term vacation rentals anyway.

Yet they are still able to rent them out. Go figure?

Summit county permits short term rentals for obvious reasons HOWEVER there are taxes to be paid on those short term rentals as well as on the furnishings in the residence. The Denver Post article cites a number of residences advertised on vacation rental sites, either make them legal and assess appropriate taxes or crack down on ALL of them, not just the 'problem' ones.

True, but the only reason Jeffco government is changing the law is for their benefit....not ours.
