Some things are just a lost cause!

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

I got nothin'. Otsego MI 1968, papermill town.
We did have back then, a girl (now middle aged woman) who paraded the two block main street and 1 block in every direction
decked out in a chiffon dress, kitten heels, and a sash proclaiming MISS OTSEGO. I saw her last spring without the sash.
At the same time there was a boy (12 maybe) who never went to school and rode around town seemingly 24/7 on a bike with a working gumball machine attached to the front.

Derek Jeeter went to Kalamazoo Central. That's the closest I can get. 15 miles away.
Also, Barak Obama gave the commencement speech 2010 for Kalamazoo Central.
They get TWO, Otsego zip.

Never underestimate the power of a hissy fit.

Doland High School, South Dakota. Now, 250 people and one that graduated from there was Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey. And the first Humphrey Drug Store.

HALL OF FAME DISTINGUISHED MEMBER: Dennis Koslowski

Dennis Koslowski became the first U.S. Greco-Roman wrestler to win two medals at the Olympic Games. Koslowski captured a bronze medal at 100 kg/220 lbs. at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, and came back to win a silver medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.

"His power was legendary, his skills were masterful, and his composure was rock solid," said Tom Minkel, head coach of the 1992 Olympic Greco-Roman Team. "He routinely wrecked the opponents in his weight class - and he was a gentleman while doing it."

At Doland High School in South Dakota, Duane Koslowski was a state champion and state runner-up in wrestling, while Dennis Koslowski was third in the state two times. The brothers went on to the University of Minnesota-Morris, where they both excelled in wrestling and football.

Columbine High School

April 20, 1999 : Two students stormed Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado and murdered 12 other students aged 14 to 18 as well as a teacher. A further 24 people were injured before the attackers, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, killed themselves.

What a way to have to remember your School

On the lighter side Big Head Todd went there.

Remember the Titans. The real football coach was no where near as handsome as Denzel but the rest was so-so accurate!

Rhinelander High School - Home of the Hodag

One of the largest high schools in the Wisconsin Northwoods.
The school holds the record for the most consecutive wins in Mock Trial, a nation-wide high school activity where students study a court case selected by the state and then play attorney and witness roles in a simulated court setting, arguing both sides of the case before judges who are practicing and retired lawyers. (When I was in Mock Trial we retried New Jersey v. T. L. O., an illeagal search and siezure case)

A notable team at the school is the dance team who is defending two time national champions.

Notable alumni:
Jason Doering, football player
Gene Englund, professional basketball player
Lauralynn Norton, Miss Oklahoma USA 1990
Vanessa Semrow, Miss Teen USA 2002
Mike Webster, Hall of Fame center, Pittsburgh Steelers, 1974–1988; Kansas City Chiefs, 1989–1990
Frederick Wedge, professional boxer, clergyman, and college professor

John Heisman is buried in Rhinelander in Grave D, Lot 11, Block 3 of the city-owned Forest Home Cemetery.
