Remember the little girl whose body was dumped in a duffle bag in Deer Creek Canyon?
DNA Leads To Suspect In Alie Berrelez Case
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Police have a suspect in the disappearance of Aleszandra "Alie" Berrelez, a cold case that has spanned 18 years.
Berrelez, 5, disappeared on May 18, 1993, from the Golden Nugget apartment complex on Grand Avenue in Englewood. Her body was found four days later in Deer Creek Canyon in Jefferson County.
I think about her every time I drive by the spot in Deer Creek Canyon where they found her body. Such a waste.
Police are holding a news conference tomorrow to announce the DNA results. I'm sure the family has already been told. The family pretty much knew who it was early on and said only DNA results would positively identify the killer. I'm glad they have closure.
Had Englewood police spread news of her disappearance immediately, she might have been saved, but they waited until the next day to make the plea for help. By then, she was already dead.
