I viewed the same video clip earlier today and I have to say it touched me, what a wonderful gift it must be to give another person the sense of hearing! Her reactions seem entirely correct to me and I hope that she continues to recover and makes the most of her restored hearing. How cool would it be to hear music, noise, other people speaking, and even your own voice for the first time after 29 years of being deaf?!
I hope others in similar circumstances are able to take advantage of this technology!
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

My ex and son are both deaf in one ear. Both from nerve damage. I always tell my son to take care of his good ear. I wonder if someday they will find a way to get their hearing back. Technology is wonderful and to watch such emotion after all those years!
Best wishes to you and yours, I can't imagine the emotional impact of suddenly having hearing vs. going with out that sense for 29 years. At least your kin has some hearing and you are right to ask them to guard it. My Dad and Grandfather farmed and ran tractors and other heavy equipment with little or no mufflers, needless to say neither of them could hear well in their advanced years and it was sad when it came to communicating with them as they got older. I felt like it made more sense to send them letters than to try to have a face to face discussion with either of them.

You know my ex lost his hearing when he was a baby from complications of meningitis so it never affected him too bad. He was just used to it from a young age. My son lost his hearing after his brain surgery. I believe his nerves are severed. Many people lose their hearing after surgery for that type of tumor and the hardest thing is they get tinnitus. My son has that and he is lucky. It does not seem to affect him too bad. I was surprised that he adjusted so well. Perhaps because he saw his dad with it all those years. I know others who have had the same surgery my son had and the tinnitus almost drives them crazy. The older you get the harder it is to adjust to.
I still think the technology is amazing. They actually wanted to give my son a device that they put on your head that brings the sound from the deaf ear over to the good ear. But it is fairly large and you can see it on your head and I think he would rather just stay deaf in that ear than see that box on his head.
Wow. That is special. Brought tears to my eyes. Those of us who are hard of hearing, often frustrated when we do not understand what is said and have to ask someone to repeat, can relate to the gift of hearing. Hearing loss dims the world or drowns much of it when one has tinnitus (me included). Oh what I would give to hear as well as I did before I ran all those machines without hearing protection.
