If you thought the hens in jumpers were adorable, prepare to pass out from cuteness with these penguins in sweaters. A New Zealand yarn store is calling for knitters to whip out their needles in an effort to provide sweater vests to penguins affected by an oil spill.
Update: The penguins are all set, and no more knit jumpers are needed at this time. @AmykNitZ on Twitter shared this link and let us know that the penguins have more than enough sweaters. Instead, check out some of the other many knitting, crochet and sewing charities that are going on this winter, like the Mitten Commitment (via @SisterDiane )
Every year, millions of Americans face the cold winter weather without the proper warm clothing to protect them. With your help, we can make a difference in the lives some of these individuals by providing them with handmade mittens.
The Mitten Commitment is a call-to-action for crafters all over the country. We're counting on you (and your crafting friends) to knit, crochet, or sew one pair of mittens to donate. They can be any size and can be as traditional or as creative as you want! Warm, wooly knitted mittens. Fleecy, fabulous hand-sewn mittens. Mittens with cables, mittens with embroidery, even mittens with faux-hawks!
And to help you get started, we've dedicated a page on our blog to feature free patterns and inspiring ideas from other crafters, including celebrity designers Suede and The Crochet Dude! You'll be able to stay up-to-date on our progress, see mittens from other crafters and share inspiring stories about your own Mitten Commitment. Did your sewing circle all make mittens? We wanna know! Got a question about a tricky stitch? Your fellow crafters can help!
