I find this to be amazing and inspirational, a wonderful testimony to human kind's tenacity and adaptability.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." - Henry Ford
Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus
This example is just one of many where people have been forced to compensate for the loss of one f our senses. I believe the integration of our senses has diminished their practical acuity. They lie latent and when needed respond in truly amazing ways. I think all of us have the ability for being hyper sensitized. Something I read about sailing comes to mind. Husband falls overboard at night in a raging sea. Wife sleeping in cabin thinks she heard him yell, gets up, sees he is missing and listens intently. She hears his yell, turns the sailboat around and finds him. It's hard enough to hear something on a calm ocean and seemingly impossible to hear during a raging storm. Both are extreme examples. I bet, some of you have also had some most unusual experiences of heightened sensitization for one reason or another.
