Thats a big number $41 billion! Good deal for the card companies though. They can probably book the revenue when the card is issued. Just give cash, LOL. I wonder if a lot of cards have a couple bucks left on them that never get used either?

Republicans are red, democrats are blue, neither of them, gives a flip about you.
I got a few gift cards over Christmas. I don't really care for any of them due to the necessity of keeping track of the cards and balances or possibly losing one. The cards for a specific store or restaurant aren't too bad, but I hate the Visa and Master Card ones. A lot of rebates are also given out that way now.
The problem with the Visa and Master Cards are they are difficult to use at certain commen places like gas stations and restaurants. For a gas station you can't pay at the pump, but have to go inside. For restaurants you have to include a 20% tip before you can use the card. I even had a card get refused at a motel because you had to include a 20% tip (tip a motel bill?) so you couldn't redeem the card for its full value. You are given no reason why it's rejected unless you call the card company and go on hold. And the biggest issues I have with them is they start expiring after one year. One of them charges you $2 a month after the first year.
While I certainly appreciate the gifts, when you don't know what to get someone whatever happened to just giving cash? Please, no more Visa or Master Cards... :bash
I'm not a fan of MC or Visa cards, but I LOVE getting iTunes and Amazon.com gift cards - I will always need more music and more books!
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
I prefer giving cash but I do have a sister who is paranoid about putting the family credit card onto the internet so I give my nieces I-Tune and Amazon gift cards.
Don't like recieving them because they take up space in my wallet.
