Steve Jobs and Apple

Just completed reading Walter Isaacson's "Steve Jobs". A good work by the head of The Aspen Institute. I was in San Francisco 1974-1985 during the rise of the personal computer and the implosion of IBM. After reading the book and musing over those times I do not see how Apple will last over time. Jobs was a piece of work, a perfectionist who suffered fools not. RIP Mr. Jobs - you indeed changed the world.

yes, but HOW did he change the world?At what expense? He knew of all the labor issues with producing his products in China and was on record DEFENDING THEM. Apple's profits are some of the greatest in the world and that is saying a lot these days with MANY companies having record profits. But profits at what expense? Steve Jobs owns this. He doesn't get a pass because he's dead.

semi-skilled labor USA at $100/hr is gone baby gone......ask the UAW.

the Chinese workers would do well if they had a union looking out for their welfare. As long as the rest of us want cheap crap, labor will go to countries that exploit. This is not a financial issue, it is really a moral issue (in my book)

BUT - the CHICOM Army runs the state - AND we HAVE NO CHOICE.....DO WE? REMEMBER THE YANKEES WON THE WAR AND LOST RECONSTRUCTION - OR HAVE YOU NOT NOTICED

I think of it as the "walmartizing" of America. It has turned this country into a death spiral on manufacturing quality goods that last. We just throw the cheap crap away when it breaks in 6 months and buy another cheap one. I hope the world comes back around and starts taking the world's resources seriously and begin to make good quality stuff again and things we can have fixed instead of throwing away.

We are not in a "death sprial" - we are restructuring (automation and realistic labor costs) - this will take decades - took decades to muck it up. Education (we are 37th in the world) is also to be restructured - football, beer and sex is not a real set of professional activities - cultural dysfunction.

You are correct - the world is in awe of the Germans - and afraid of their capabilities. Actually Germany WON WWII - Britian imploded we rebuilt their (Germany) infrastructure, they outlasted the USSR and now again RULE Europe.

no, I mean that because of his army's destruction of most of Europe, the US was the only major power whose infrastructure was in tack, giving us the bulk of all business in manufacturing, etc - allowing us to ahead of the game and the world for a while...
