YUMA COUNTY, Colo. -- A mile-wide grass fire has forced evacuations in a 224-square mile area, including the 300-resident town of Eckley, Colo., near the Nebraska border on Sunday.
Three firefighters had minor injuries, at least two homes were destroyed and several other structures were threatened, said Ana Baucke, spokeswoman for the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff issued an automated telephone alert ordering residents to evacuate a 16 mile-by-14-mile area, Baucke.
The fire acreage was not known, but it was estimated to be between 1 mile and 1½-miles wide.

But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
