Maybe not.....when trying to convince my 94 yr old mom to give up her car, and driving, I showed her that she could take a lot of taxi cab rides before even approaching the cost to maintain a car, put gas in it, pay insurance, and prorate the cost of buying a car over 10 years. Figure it out sometime.

Of course, that won't work in the mountains where a taxi looks like an alien species.

One of the few places around the world that I saw my life flash before my eyes while riding in a taxi! The Italians are almost as crazy as the Greeks when they get behind the wheel! The concept of lanes is lost on the Italians, they drive in every direction where ever their cars will fit in to the traffic pattern. The only rules seem to be that it's illegal to strike anyone with your vehicle and when the Carabinieri standing in the middle of the road hold up their lol ly pops you stop and pay the "fine."

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

lol At least they have paved roads. Try a taxi anywhere in South America to get to an outer region. Same speed whether paved or unpaved.

The worse place is in Turkey. I learned to look out the side windows so I wouldn't get scared! I've heard from many others, that most Middle Eastern countries are scary.

Never had any problems in Italy.

Puerta Vallarta gets my vote for "close your eyes and hang on tight". We ended up taking the bus (which wasn't much of an improvement but at least we'd die with more people).
