Having listened to the all the new fire starts Saturday and Sunday, my gut isn't feeling to good today about the origin of these fires.
The Alma fire is being investigated as arson. Haven't heard much about the other multiple fires.
Should we all be paying closer attention to suspicious cars?
I know I will be watching closely.
I think Becky that maybe it is time to pay more attention to the guy whose stopped on the side of the road. Pull over if possible and offer some assistance...
I would be a bit cautious about pulling over and offering assistance as it might provoke an attack if the person or persons suspects you might know.
Better to get a good look at vehicle and person if possible and report.
And it doesn't necessarily mean that the firebug is in a vehicle. He could be on foot, maybe with a backpack looking like he has been backpacking in the high country. That wouldn't draw attention. Be cognizant of people around you and time seen so that if you learn later of a firebug in the area during that timeframe, you can share with the Sheriff dept.

that's real true Grady, but then again if they are stopped and you stop and show some interest as to what they are doing along with getting the Lic# and the like you could be deterring a problem.
Or being injured or dead. If a person is willing to start a series of fires and doesn't want you to implicate him/her, I wouldn't put it past them to try to stop you from IDing them. Better to contact the Sheriff's Dept. and report. Nothing to keep you from keeping an eye on them from a distance.

It's my opinion but, anyone crazy enough to be out setting fires under these conditions is nuttier than a Port-A-Potty at a peanut festival! Take good notes, gather as much information as you can, snap a couple of digital images with your cell phone and get that intel to LE quickly.
Worst case? An innocent citizen has an encounter with LE. Best case? The person or persons who are doing this get locked up and hopefully put away for a long time.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

I am not in favor of having private enterprise profiting from firefighting. They have no incentive to quickly extinguish the fire and the more fires the more likely they are to avoid bankruptcy.
