The Last Three Months of the Year, Where Does the Time Go?

13 Nov 2013 19:09 #1 by otisptoadwater
Is it just me or does it seem like the 4th quarter of the year goes by faster and faster every year? The Christmas decorations come out before Halloween, turkeys go on sale in October, and before you know it New Years Eve is upon us. I'm sure some of it has to do with the daylight hours getting shorter and the time off over the holidays (assuming you get time off). How much of it has to do with retail outlets putting Christmas decorations out earlier and earlier every year?

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Don't know about 4'th quarters but years are another story.

When I was six a year was forever. At sixty December 31 follows January 1 so fast I don't even notice. I sure hope that when the Y2K bug hits the world does not end.

For me it is any season, seemed like Summer was only one month long.

For this Hippie Chick, this is THE best time of the year in Colorado so I'm with you Otis, it goes by way too fast!

What amazes me is how early some of the radio stations start playing Christmas music. I heard this one already this week and immediately switched stations. It is bar far my least favorite Christmas song of all time.

Neighbors put their Christmas lights up today and the display rivals the Griswold's of movie fame; I understand that the Jewish community is also experiencing some holiday clash as Chanukah and Thanksgiving blend together this year. Can't we just celebrate one holiday at a time?

Ok, It's December and I'm getting pressure to put the Christmas lights on the exterior of the cave... I'm putting it off until tomorrow afternoon but I imagine it'll go something like this:

Well... the Jewish community doesn't have much control when Chanukah happens, since the holiday and the date it falls on is based on a 3000 + year old lunar calender, not a solar calender like the typical western calender.

I hear you Walter, I'm just frustrated with the commercial blur that happens from October to January 1st. Perhaps I'm missing out on the "economy of combined holidays?" Maybe we should give some additional consideration to the idea of "Christmahanakwanzica?"

Don't worry about Hannukah/Thanksgiving happening next year. Supposed to not happen again for some 80,000 years.
