Which all boils down to,.... Do your homework first to decide what you need on a device and how you will use it. I love my daughter's kindle fire, unfortunately it did not have HDMI output, a deal breaker for me, neither does the Ipad, nor do they have the ability to use USB peripherals. I found an Asus 7.9" tablet on Amazon for $165, does everything I need, but I still use the kindle to read. There are so many options out there now, every one has their favorite. Coolest thing, with the Asus hooked to the TV to watch movies or Dish anywhere I can control it from a wireless mouse sitting on the couch. The very height of laziness

The newest $199.00 Kindle Fire HDX does have an HDMI port. So did the Kindle Fire HD 2012. The $139.00 Kindle Fire HD 2013 does not.

You can find Kindle Fire HD 2012 with the HDMI port is still available, try Ebay. I think Amazon is about sold out of last years model. If you can find it at Amazon, it should be about $169.00.

I don't have any favorites. All I was responding to was you comment about HDMI. Sorry to waste your time.

No, I'm sorry, didn't mean to irritate you. I, on the other hand, do have favorites.

Does that mean you need a wire to run from your Asus to your tv?

Yes, the TV is not the new type with wireless, I connect the Asus with the HDMI cord. Some day we will get a new smart TV, but not any time soon. I just wanted to be able to watch the Broncos when they aren't on Phoenix TV, or catchup on Denver /Colorado news. We use a DISH Hopper.

I take it you can do that with a tablet or a latter generation Kindle? I started out thinking electronic book. Then some possibilities started occurring to me. I do not want to watch a show or movie on a laptop or small but the idea that I can chase a wild hair from my couch and xfer ti to the tv is cool.

For example the recent ad for Walter Mitty reminded me of a 40 yr old tv show called "the secret life of Henry Phyfe. I do not really remember the show exactly (I was 13) but I think I liked it. The ability to find it, download it and watch it right now is far out.

Given the pricing having two separate devices like you do is starting to make more sense.

I think the next time down the hill we will have to browse a Best Buy.

Browse Best Buy.... Buy on Amazon, or at least check online. Between Amazon and Newegg, I never buy electronics in a big box store, scratch that, I buy all my computers at Costco because of the return policy and free extended warranty.
