So the hubby and I are trying to eat healthier so today I was down in town so I took my grocery list with me and went to Whole Foods since it was right by where I needed to go.
If I were to of bought all the items I needed (not including paper products) from there my bill would have been more than double what we normally spend for the same items.
I did get a few things but then I went to Costco and got my meat, cheese, paper products and some fresh vegetables after that I headed to Kings to pick up the rest.
All I am going to say is organic or not I will not pay $4.49 a pound for a tomato or nearly $2.00 for an avocado.
We won't even talk about the meat and cheese prices (we typically by these from Costco) they are at least double what Kings charges and I won't by from them unless they are on sale or I am not able to get to Costco.
There are only two of us I could not even imagine trying to shop for a family of four.
Welcome to Whole Paycheck. Where you come with your list and leave without your week's pay.
I can't deny that they've got a great fish and cheese selection, and I love that their deli meats have no nitrites or nitrates, but they are overpriced for many regular items. For example, I usually buy my Burt's Bees at Target and save.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
"As the great, sliding glass doors part I am immediately smacked in the face by a wall of cool, moist air that smells of strawberries and orchids. I leave behind the concrete jungle and enter a cornucopia of organic bliss; the land of hemp milk and honey. Seriously, think about Heaven and then think about Whole Foods; they're basically the same."
Couple of things about "organic"...1.) are you SURE it's been produced organically....just because it's labeled does NOT indicate it's TRUE production. 2.)KNOW your source....local producers are
available to TALK to and you will find MANY interesting facts about "organic".
I spoke to an "organic" farmer last spring.....he stated that it was a "bitch" to get certified
and to "start up", but once the process was complete, the follow up checks/inspections were
few and far between.....(read NOT enough inspectors to do the job AND too heavy a work
load to keep on top of the demand.).......
In general, I find Whole Foods pretty pretentious and rarely walk thru the doors.....JMO
With Whole Foods, you are not only buying food but also the idea that you are being healthier.
That smug factor is expensive. Like why Coach handbags cost 10 times as much as the same quality leather handbag.
