The Jefferson County Commissioners have recently announced additional slash collection sites for 2014. The next one will be on Sept. 27 and 28. The complete list of dates and locations, along with what you can and cannot bring, is below.
Slash Collection Dead Trees "The county is very pleased that we can offer these slash sites to residents – two in the Evergreen area and two in Coal Creek Canyon. We are working hard to arrange additional sites and hope to confirm those additional sites very soon," said Chair Faye Griffin.
The threat of wildfires in the mountain areas of Jefferson County is always a concern, particularly during droughts and dry spells. There are steps residents can take to make their homes less susceptible to fire including removing slash such as tree limbs, pine needles and other vegetation from around their homes.
Commissioners Faye Griffin, Casey Tighe and Donald Rosier each voted at a special meeting on June 26, 2014, to enter into a contract with the Rolling R Ranch Company, LLC, and approved the additional $44,000 expenditure to provide more opportunities for landowners to get rid of slash.
"I have spent hundreds of hours in the mountain communities talking with Jeffco residents and working toward a fiscally responsible approach to slash collection and processing. This is a great step in that direction," said Commissioner Donald Rosier.
Commissioner Casey Tighe added, "We want to encourage property owners in the mountain areas to be aware of fire risk and create defensible space around their homes. We hope this slash program will make it easier for Jefferson County residents to dispose of slash from their property."
